July 2021 - Increase in Statutory Holidays in Hong Kong

The proposed Employment (Amendment) Bill 2021 for increasing progressively the number of statutory holidays in Hong Kong from the current 12 to 17 days was passed by the Legislative Council on 7 July 2021.

Under the Employment Ordinance (“EO”), an employee shall enjoy statutory holidays during employment. Twelve (12) statutory holidays listed below were defined in the EO and holiday pay for these statutory holidays based on the average daily wages earned by an employee in the 12-month preceding the day of the statutory holiday should be paid to the employee.
