Fung Shiu Hang interviewed by HK01 (January 2021)

Fung Shiu Hang, our Head of Audit and assurance at Mazars in Hong Kong shared his thoughts on recent employment situation of fresh graduates with HK01 in January 2021.

Under the global economic recession triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, fresh graduates have had a rocky start in their job search. According to the Graduate Employment Survey 2020 released by the Office of Student Affairs of Lingnan University, 85% of their fresh graduates successfully joined the workforce and the overall average monthly income of full-time employed graduates was HK$15,000. However, comparing with the previous year, respondents take extra 1-2months to find a job. Fung Shiu Hang, our Head of Audit and assurance at Mazars in Hong Kong suggested that educational institutions could provide salary subsidies to employers who hire graduates. Similar with the last year practice, Mazars in Hong Kong hired 30 to 40 fresh graduates with the starting monthly salaries of approximately HK$14,000. Hang added: “Under the pandemic, Mazars in Hong Kong will continue hiring fresh graduates so as to sustain our business in Mainland China. We hire at least 1-2 students from Lingnan University every year and total 5 of them joined our team last year.”
